samples were collected. Post excavation samples passed regulatory guidelines.
• Shaw excavated hot spot soil from buildings slabs 27, 75 and 106. Samples were sent for laboratory analysis for PAH’s in slabs 75 and 106. Slab 106 also had a lead hot spot which passed XRF analysis for lead. The concrete vault and impacted soil immediately surrounding it at slab 27 was removed. Approximately 238 gallons of vault liquids were also removed and disposed. Seven test pits were excavated around the vault to try to delineate impacted soil. Additional investigation will be required to determine impacted soil quantities.

• Shaw collected samples from crush material for lead analysis. Analytical results are all below RG’s.
• DH Griffin alerted Shaw to a an area below reservoir 38 with strong organic odors. PID readings were noted in excess of 50 ppm. Samples were collected and sent to the
laboratory for VOC’s and PAH’s. Results indicated that soil in the area of concern is below RG’s.

• Shaw continued sampling crushed concrete/brick debris. Results from last weeks
sampling showed no elevated lead impacts in the debris stream.
• Shaw continued the building clearance process. Building 43 was cleared for demolition.
• DH Griffin (DARI) shipped 2 truckload of asbestos to Charlotte Motor Speedway
Landfill totaling 20.5 tons.

transferring to the clarifier. Approximately 20 loads have been transferred to the clarifier
totaling 50-60,000 gallons. The task appears 50% completed.
• DRV continued discharging from the north clarifier into the ASB.
• Shaw continued slab assessment activities in building slabs 68,88.
• Shaw completed collecting sediment samples in the EC building trenches
• Shaw collected environmental samples while overseeing the Kessel Engineering
geotechnical borings (6,7,9,10,11,12). When ample volume is available samples are
analyzed for metals using XRF analysis. Three samples from GT-10 exceeded RG’s for
arsenic (25,37,46 ppm). Boring locations 10 and 12 had PID readings in excess of 5ppm
and were sent for laboratory analysis (VOC’s and PAH’s).
• Shaw collected two samples from crush material for lead analysis.
• Shaw completed preparations’ (driller, Frac tank, pumps) to conduct the additional
drilling activities at the Caustic area next week. Frac tank didn’t arrive till Monday other
preparations were just scheduling?

location. 433 samples have been collected through 1/31/09.

• Shaw continued the building clearance process; buildings 62 walkthrough identified ten large transformers requiring oil drain confirmation. All are labeled non PCB.
• Shaw continued the building clearance process of building on the east side of the site.

• Based on regulator review, Shaw finalized the Tech Memo discussing elevated arsenic background levels used as fill material in the cellophane area.
• Shaw placed clean fill and grading areas disturbed by excavation and load-out activities at the rifle range.
• Shaw installed 6 new monitoring wells and completed 12 direct push soil borings around the caustic building slab. Four additional hand auger samples were collected within the footprint of the caustic building down to the groundwater interface. pH readings varied from 12.56 to 13.58.
• Shaw cleared and grubbed the south and east ditch transects and marked transects sample locations. Ditch side sampling began in the north end of the east ditch and center deep samples were collected in the east and south ditches. 98 samples were collected from side sampling and 20 from ditch centers. Three deep samples were not
collected due to numerous refusals from 1 ½ to 2 feet. Remaining deep samples will be collected using a 2 foot core to insure adequate volume and a more representative matrix. Two of the18-24” samples have exceeded RG’s for mercury, 12 have been analyzed.
• Mountain Environmental continued to remediate OHM, weak liquor was removed from a sump in building 75 and placed in the clarifier.

• Shaw completed the remaining (PAH) hot spot excavation at SB-04. Four sidewalls and one floor sample were sent for lab analysis. Approximately 16 cubic yards were
excavated and placed in Building 89 with the remaining Olin area soils.
• Shaw completed hotspot removals at four cellophane areas: B101, B106, B94, B95, and B82. Approximately 200 cubic yards, mostly for B-82, of soil were generated from the removals and all soil was transported and staged in secure Building 89.
• Shaw received final acceptance of the TCRA Work plan from EPA with the finalization of the Ditches investigation strategy.
