In November, residents will be seeing United States Environmental Protection Agency personnel and contractors in the West Vermont/Cossell Road neighborhood. EPA will be conducting a study to identify the source of the area groundwater contamination. Groundwater is an environmental term for an underground supply of fresh water. This field work will include activities such as installing temporary monitoring wells, collecting soil and ground-water samples, and studying the area geology.
EPA is also continuing to work with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Marion County Public Health Department, and the Town of Speedway to get this neighborhood connected to a public water supply in the near future.
