Night activities 3/2/2012 Site Update
OSC arrived at site location near 1230 am and conducted review of air monitoring data.  OSC selected stationary air monitoring locations based on NWS hourly wind forecasts.  START set up three air monitors for LEL.  All data will be available on the web viewer on the profile page.

Two people out of a population of 996 from Medford spent the night at the shelter location in Wakita, OK

Rate of release 3/2/2012 Site Update

The rate of release of propane from the blow out site is 3,394,800 cubic feet/hr from a pipe opening of 7 5/8" from a cavern that is 950' below ground surface.



Initial Update 3/1/2012 Site Update
The town of Medford, OK issued an evacuation order due to a uncontrollable release of propane from a salt dome located in Medford, OK. It is estimated the order could impact as many as 1000 people. The OneOK facility began releasing propane two days ago and has been unable to control the well. The facility is unable to provide a timetable for controlling the well. EPA has coordinated with OCC and ODEQ on the incident. OSC Delgado is deployed to coordinate with local and state emergency response agencies and ensure that they have the necessary resources necessary to evaluate the threat posed by the ongoing release. Kent Sanborn (6EN) is also scheduled to investigate a reported salt water spill associated with the same incident tomorrow morning. FEMA R6 reported the incident the NRC (NRC #1004508)
