Excavation activities to locate a buried water line continued in the ditch along Franklin Street, and contaminated material was transferred to sheeting to be contained. Gas and sewer lines were located on 9/4/07. While excavating in the ditch along Franklin Street adjacent to the View of the grossly contaminated soils generated during excavation activities in the ditch along Franklin Street on the morning of 9/4/07. Sheeting was used to contain the soil and prevent migration of contamination to the surrounding areas. The crew installs sheet piling along Franklin Street. The weather condition at the time is misty rain and cool temperatures. Crew is setting up guide to continue piling installation. Photo taken facing west. Excavated materials are stored on the property on visqueen. The crew has completed excavation activities in the ditch an are preparing to place sand, geofabric, and riprap to restore the ditch. Sheen on water in the ditch prompted the crew to place an absorbant boom. The crew places sand in the ditch as the first step in ditch restoration. The crew levels and compacts the sand in the ditch with an excavator. The crew places geofabric in the ditch over the sand. Here the crew member is seen trimming the geofabric to fit around the culvert inlet. The crew places riprap over the geofabric in the final step of ditch restoration along Franklin Street. The crew installs the final section of ditch restoration for the day. A small portion is left for 9/25/07. The crew has complete approximately 155 feet of ditch restoration today. The crew has covered the sediments and rip rap excavated from the ditch today with visqueen to prevent migration via wind or water from the site. The soil will be disposed prior to project completion.
