Site Description
The Southern Illinois Railcar (SIR) Site is located at 7570 Ottawa Road, Cairo, Allen County, Ohio 45807.  The facility is a former fertilizer plant adjacent to the Warrington Ditch a tributary of Rattlesnake Creek and Little Auglaize River. The Site is currently owned and operated by Southern Illinois Railcar as a railcar repair facility.

Current Activities

On Monday April 6, 2009, AES, Southern Illinois Railcar, U.S. EPA and START participated in a kick-off meeting.  The purpose of the meeting was to share the planned project activities and schedule.  

The storm water management task will continue during removal activities.  The removal of stone from the south warehouse is scheduled to begin Tuesday April 7, 2009.  

To date, 1,536,802 gallons of ammonia-water have been removed from the site and disposed at United Waste Water Services or the Lima Waste Water Treatment Plant.  A total of 360.37 tons of impacted soil have been removed and disposed at Waste Management - Evergreen RDF Northwood, Ohio.
