See Pollution Report #1
On April 15, 2009, an Atwell-Hicks (AH) Project Coordinator and a three-man crew from M. L. Chartier, Inc. (Chartier) arrived at the Thornapple Valley site to initiate the removal of PCB-impacted soil from along the railroad right-of-way that exists behind the building located at 2900 Orleans (site building).
The area of impacted soil extends from a point located 98 feet southeast of the Adelaide Street bridge to an area located directly behind the site building. The total number of linear feet between these two points is 618 feet, while the area behind the site building measures 30 feet by 20 feet.
Prior to Chartier beginning the excavation, representatives from AT&T and Sprint were on site to mark the fiber optic cables that lie close to the intended areas of excavation.
Chartier excavated 143 feet of impacted soil, and fully loaded two 20-cubic-yard rolloff boxes. Chartier then staged these rolloff boxes at the front of the site building until Waste Management, Inc. could authorize AH to dispose of the impacted soil at Waste Management's Pine Tree Landfill.
On April 16, 2008, Chartier excavated an additional 313 feet of impacted soil along the railroad right-of-way, and fully loaded an additional two 20-cubic-yard folloff boxes.
On April 17, 2008, Chartier excavated an additional 138 feet of impacted soil along the railroad right-of-way. This excavation brought the total number of excavated feet to 594 feet.
During the week ending April 24, 2009, AH and Chartier will begin excavating the impacted soil from the area located directly behind the site building.
Chartier will also begin transporting the impacted soil to the Pine Tree Landfill once AH receives authorization from Waste Management, Inc. to dispose of the impacted soil at the Pine Tree facility.
