Pollution Report (POLREP) #4
Site Description
The Kriger Battery removal site is located in Greenwood, Caddo Parish, Lousisana on commercial/industrial zoned property.  The site is a former battery reclamation facility that operated between 1972 and 1982 and consisted of a processing building, acid neutralization pit, and hammer mill area.  Historical sampling conducted by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ)shows on-site lead concentrations as high as 112,660 mg/kg.  Elevated lead concentrations have been located off-site on adjoining properties and drainage paths.

Current Activities
Excavation of grids on eastern portion of the site complete.  To date, 19 off-site grids and 33 on-site grids have been excavated. Of the 52 grids excavated, only 13 on-site grids show lead at a level above the cleanup level. These grids will be reassessed by LDEQ to determine extent of LDEQ removal.  All excavated soils have been stockpiled.

The results of the characterization sampling of these excavated soils showed that on-site treatment prior to transportation and disposal was warranted.  Treatment operations were commenced during the reporting period, resulting in 112 cubic yards of treated excavated soil to date.

Planned Removal Actions
Continue excavated soil treatment operations.

Next Steps
Transportation and disposal of waste generated from treatment operations will commence upon receipt of supporting non-hazardous analytical results.
