The Kriger Battery Site is located in Greenwood, Caddo Parish, Louisiana. The facility was in the business of reclaiming lead from batteries. The facility operated from 1972 to approximately January 1982 at which time it purportedly closed down due to severely depressed lead market. The company pursued site closure and recieved a Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) closure permit dated September 27, 1984. LDEQ has no records which indicate that the site was ever satisfactorily closed. The LDEQ conducted sampling at the site in 1999 and 2000 and identified concentrations for lead as high as 112,660 mg/kg. Based upon the LDEQ sampling activities, it appears that adjacent property and drainage ditch have been impacted as a result of the historical operations and rainfall migration.
