Current Activities
Air surveillance program initiated with the collection of high volume air samples for total radium and gross alpha/beta activity.  Six sample locations set up.  

Sampling of the ceiling inside the south building utilizing wipe samples counted for gross alpha/beta activity and real-time monitoring for alpha radiation indicated minimal removable contamination (below NUREG 1.86) and fixed contamination above NUREG 1.86 guidelines for fixed contamination.  This structure will be decontaminated later in the project.

Next Steps
1.  Initiate enforcement action against the land owner and business owner
2.  Continue community relations program to inform neighborhood of removal activities
3.  Initiate segregation assessment of yard by the START and PST on July 29, 2004.
    a.  August 2, 2004:  Semi-trailer assessment
    b.  August 6, Mobile home assessment


Key Issues
1.  Discussions with CADHS on the use of NRC Regulatory Guide 1.86 as cleanup action level.
2.  Approval of Action Memo with statutory exemption from Headquarters.
3.  Approval to discharge to the POTW from the City of Los Angeles.
4.  City of Los Angeles Local Enforcement Agency has prohibited the disposal of any solid waste from the site within the city limits.
5.  Demobilization of ERRS due to insufficient funding on July 30, 2004.  ERRS will remobilize after the Action Memo is fully funded.
