Site Description
The Circle DE Lumber Site is a former wood treating facility.  Past operations included wood treatment using PCP with diesel as a carrier oil.  

The primary objective for this removal action is to reduce the off-site migration or the threat of the off site migration of listed hazardous waste.  


Current Activities
Tuesday 11/15/2005:  START (1) and Environmental West (3) personnel arrive on site.
START identified the locations of the five monitoring wells to be installed by Environmental West (EW).   EW drilled and installed Monitoring Well #1 at the eastern edge of site.  START collected soil samples from well #1 to be analyzed by a second START using field screening kits for Pentachlorophenol analysis.

Wednesday 11/16/2005:  START (1), and EW (3) personnel on site.
EW drilled and installed Monitoring Well #2 and #3.  START collected soil samples for field screening from MW02 and MW03.  

Thrusday 11/17/2005:  START(2), and EW (3) personnel on site.
EW drilled and installed Monitoring Well #4 and #5.  START collected soil samples from Well #4 and #5, a total of 23 soil samples were collected from the boreholes of the five wells.  START screen all 23 soil samples with a Pentachlorophenol Assay kit.  START also collected two rinsate samples from the sampling equipment used to collect the samples.  EW and START developed MW01 and begain to develope MW02.  Enviromental West completed work and demobed from site.

Friday 11/18/2005:  START(2) personnel on site.
START developed MW03, MW04, and MW05 for sampling on Saturday.  START completed an elevation survey of the five monitoring wells as well as measuring the depth to water and bottom of the wells.

Saturday 11/19/2005:  START(2) personnel on site. START collected water samples from the five wells.  The five well location points were measured using GPS equipment.  All samples and equipment were packed and shipped to START's warehouse in Seattle.  All START personnel demobed from the site.


Planned Removal Actions
The following Planned Removal Actions have been Completed:
1) Mobilize personnel and resources to the Site the week of 10/31/2005;  
2) Arrange for proper utility locates;  
3) Remove, dismantle, and scrap for off-site disposal/recycling tank and concrete impoundment to prevent future misuse and to access underlying contaminated soils;
4) Arrange for the proper off-site disposal of contaminated soils from the site;
5) Excavate and stock pile Pentachlorophenol (PCP) F032 contaminated soils into 2 seperate dispositions: < 74 PPM pcp and > 74 PPM PCP;
6) Field screen and sample as necessary to support excavation, and disposal requirements;
7) Backfill excavated area with clean fill;
8) perform restoration activities as requried;
9) Install monitoring wells the week of Nov 14-18, 2005.

The following are Planned Removal Actions not yet Initiated:
1) Transport contaminated soils from the site;


Next Steps
Transport contaminated soils from the site to an offsite disposal facility per lab results for waste stream categorization.
