Starting on April 1, 2006, BP and their contractors transitioned from emergency response activities to remediation activities. BP and its contractors began to set up a dual phase extraction unit to recover product and vapors from the subsurface of Laskey road.
BP's contractors set up the dual phase extraction unit so that the product being recovered enters the oil water separator. The product is then skimmed off and the water then filters through the carbon units. BP's contractors will have the water analyzed and wait for the City of Toledo's approval before it is discharged to the sanitary sewer. The vapors that enter the vapor extraction unit part of the system enters the catalytic oxider where the hydrocarbons are burned off.
On April 19, 2006, START conducted oversight of the initial start up of the dual phase extraction unit. START did not detect any readings on the multi-rae that were elevated.
To date, a total of 8,400 gallons of product was recovered.
Continue to contain and remove released product at the Laskey Road collection area.
Continue air monitoring activities near the pipeline release point.
Continue product and vapor recovery near the pipeline release point and subsurface beneath Laskey Road.
Periodic air monitoring at the dual phase extraction unit.
