On March 23, 2006, Ohio EPA requested U.S. EPA assistance in providing air monitoring in a residential neighborhood following a BP pipeline break in Toledo, Ohio. Approximately 46 barrels of gasoline were released to Shantee Creek, which is a tributary to Lake Erie. The spilled product is currently contained in a section of Shantee Creek approximately 2 miles in length. Responding agencies include the City of Toledo, Ohio EPA, Ohio DNR, US Coast Guard, and US EPA. Clean-up activities are being handled by the Responsible Party. EPA is conducting air monitoring in residential areas adjacent to the spill source and providing oversight of clean-up activities.
