The KYDEP called to report a release of oil from an above ground crude oil tank. The spill occurred due to overfilling. An estimated 200 to 300 gallons were spilled to an unnamed tributary to the Little Sandy River. The state felt the RP's attempt at the cleanup was insufficient and were willing to conduct the cleanup. The state coordinated cleanup actions with the FOSC. The State found more oil than expected, expanding the scope beyond what was initially telephone duty OSC who dispatched FOSC Russell to assess the situation and attempt to compel the RP to assume cleanup operations. Interception trenches were excavated down gradient and about 400 gallons of oil have been recovered to date.
The KYDEP environmental contractor (Evergreen Environmental) demobed from the Site on 11-12-06. The PRP (Peters Oil) has taken the lead on mitigation with KYDEP oversite. The PRP will use the interception trenches to collect any oil that migrates into them. The PRP will also start removing the contaminated soil left behind by the KYDEP contractor.
Evergreen Environmental will work to dispose of the contaminated soil they have previously collected and transported to Lexington, Ky.
PRP will continue to remove free-product from the interception trenches.
PRP will remove contaminated soil remaining on Site.

KYDEP continues to operate under a PRFA with the EPA.
