Site Description
This is an ongoing response to a chemical fire and explosion in Danvers Massachusetts.  Two companies, CAI Inc. and Arnell Co were colocated in a building on Water Street.  At approximately 0300hrs, a fire and explosion of unknown origin resulted in the destruction of the building and significant damage to many homes and businesses in the vicinity.  There were no fatalities; several persons were hospitalized, but all have been released as of 11/25/06.

Current Activities
At 1200hrs, EPA issued a Notice to Proceed to ENPRO Environmental Services to provide response equipment in support of the ongoing crime scene investigation.  At 1235, the ENPRO chemist arrived on scene to coordinate with the OSC.  A mini-loader with drum grappler attachments arrived at the scene.

USCG Atlantic Strike TEam members arrived at the site 1230hrs to provide site management support.

At 1400, ERRS Response Manger arrived at the scene.

MADEP, USCG Strike Team, ERRS, and EPA HEalth ans Safety Officer conducted a site walk through in anticipation of the completion of the crime scene investigation.

As of COB today, USCG has released Clean Harbors, Inc. under their BOA.  USCG will process the costs for 12 steel drums delivered by CH today, to be used for collection of decon water.

START deployed 5 AreaRae monitors in support of crime scene investigation in the hotzone.

Crime scene investigation continues by Massachusetts State Fire Marshall and ATP personnel.  

Access to the hot zone is restricted until completion of the investigation which is expected to be on 11/28/06.


Planned Removal Actions
Continue the planning process for transition from response to EPA/DEP joint recovery operations.

Mobilize the EPA ERRS contractor with personnel on 11/27.

Continue coordination with local, state and federal partners.
