The Site is located at 156 Princeton Street in a residential area of Holden, Massachusetts. The Site includes a two-story brick and cinder block manufacturing building located on an approximately 17-acre property. ECC Corporation conducted electroplating operations, including manufacturing of printed circuit boards, beginning in the 1950s. The facility has been inactive and unoccupied since closing in 2005. The building is without electricity, heat, water, or fire protection utilities. Tanks, drums, and other containers of hazardous substances were present, primarily in the wastewater treatment area of the facility. Hazardous substances on-site included potassium cyanide, acids, bases, flammables, metal hydroxide sludge, and lead. See POLREP 1 for additional site background information.
See previous POLREPs for discussion of removal activities prior to July 2, 2007.
Under the oversight of MassDEP, ECC Corporation conducted additional ground water and sub-slab soil sampling on July 2 and July 9, 2007 to further define the extent of VOC contamination at the Site.
On July 11, 2007, EPA and the Emergency Rapid Response Servics (ERRS) contractor met at the Site to review the fence installation work needed to secure the former lagoon area. Approximately 380 feet of chain link fence will be installed.
On July 19, 2007, EPA and the ERRS contractor conducted a site walk with fence installation subcontractors in order to facilitate a competitive bidding process for this component of the removal action.
On July 20, 2007 the ERRS contractor disposed of spent personal protective equipment (PPE) generated throughout the removal action.
The ERRS contractor plans to mobilize a fence installation subcontractor during the week of August 20, 2007 to conduct the fence installation work in the former lagoon area.
The START contractor will document the results of the May 2007 sampling event in a site investigation memorandum and summarize the site activities conducted throughout the removal action in an After Action Report.
