Cosco International is a facility thought to be involved in the manufacture and/or distribution of cosmetics and is located at 1633 Sands Place in Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.
On February 10, 2008, EPA received a request from the local fire department to respond and take appropriate action to apparent dumping of unknown waste materials at the facility. OSC Terrence Byrd was dispatched to the scene. Numerous bags of powder and drums were observed randomly scattered about the facility grounds. A portion of the unknown material had also entered a storm drain system, which was partially obstructed. Based upon the unknown nature of the materials and the observed release/threatened release of these materials, OSC Byrd initiated an emergency removal action.
Current activites consist of mitigating the release/threat of release by removal of the bags, drumps, and spilled material from the ground and storm drain. These actions will be taken over by the PRP with EPA and/or State oversight, as appropriate.
The RP assumed responsibility for cleanup which was determined to be a non-hazardous makeup. An environmental contractor was hired to flush and recover and dispose of the waste.
