At approximately 6:30 am, Wednesday, March 19th, the Partin No. 5 Oil Well caught fire during drilling operations northwest of Oliver Springs, Tenn. The rp hired Wild Well Services from Houston, Texas to battle the fire and it was eventually extinguished on Wednesday, March 26th.

ERRs contractors (CMC Inc.) began mobing in on Thursday, March 27th and immediately began removal activities. Each day of operations begins with a tailgate safety meeting which highlights the days planned activities and corresponding safety concerns.
Oil removal from the two retention ponds continued to tanks on site. Oil saturated soil was excavated from several areas and staged. START contractors continued assessing areas upgradient of the site where oil saturated water was dumped by the rp. Well drillers began removing their burned rig, pump and vehicle debris from the site.
The OSC updated NPFCs case officer and requested additional funds to continue removal activities.
EPA will continue to coordinate all efforts with TEMA, TDEC, and local EMA.
