It is bounded immediately on the north by a small wooded area approximately one-quarter acre in size, on the south by Dorr Street (Highway 246), on the east by single family residences, and on the west by Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks. Immediately north of the woods and west of the railroad tracks is an industrial area, and immediately south of Dorr Street is a residential area.

On May 13, 2008, removal of general debris began throughout the building. Twenty-six (26) surface soil samples were collected from areas around the building were leaking drums had previously been stored.
On May 14, 2008, general debris removal continued from inside the building. A courier from an ERRS procured laboratory picked up soil samples for pH, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and metals analysis. It is anticipated that results will be reported from the laboratory on May 21, 2008.
On May 15, 2008, general debris removal continued and crews began cut 300 gallon poly tanks for disposal.
