Site Description
This polrep focuses on Site activities from December,8th, 2008 through January 17th, 2008. For more information regarding the incident or EPA's previous activities, please see previous polreps.

Chesapeake Fire Department continues to serve as the Incident Commander for the Site.  The Chesapeake Fire Dept. had requested EPA maintain a presence on the Site until work in the residential areas was completed.


Current Activities
Residential cleanup goals for the final residence on Bannister Street have been met and the resident who was temporarily relocated returned to the home mid December. No outstanding issues have been reported.

Allied will continue air monitoring of the remaining affected residence on a weekly basis.

Collection of liquid draining into a french drain on the property will also continue, as necesitated by weather conditions. The french drain has been collecting rainwater mostly.


Next Steps
EPA is preparing to conduct a post-residential cleanup water well sampling. The sampling of two drinking water wells is scheduled for early February.

Key Issues
Residential Cleanup- Residential cleanup goals for the final resident have been met and the resident who was temporarily relocated returned to the home mid December.

Investigation - The Chesapeake Fire Marshal's Office continues to be the lead agency on determining the cause of the tank collapse.  The U.S. Chemical Safety Board has announced that they plan a full investigation.

Monitoring- DEQ will continue its regular monitoring of the Elizabeth River and will be looking for any signs of impact from the spill.
