Current Activities
Construction of six treatment cells, or burritos, was completed in May 2004.  Later that month, 3 soil samples were collected from each of the cells to document toxaphene concentrations prior to treatment.

During the summer the Site was monitored by contractors.  Contractors maintained the chain-link fence surrounding the Site.

Follow-up soil sampling was conducted on September 27, 2004.  Preliminary results indicated that 5 of the 6 treatment cells met the toxaphene cleanup concentration goal.  These cells are considered to be finished.  The 6th treatment cell did not meet the cleanup goal.

Mean concentrations for all cells fell by 51 to 88% so far. More time will be allowed for further degradation to take place.

Planned Removal Actions
Once all of the treatment cells have met the Site action level for toxaphene, the cells will be uncovered, drained and the Site will be regraded.

Next Steps
A second follow-up sampling event is planned for December 2004.  Should the 6th cell meet the action level, a treatment cell decommisioning event will be planned and executed.
