A time-critical response was performed at the site in May 1996, described in the initial POLREP for the site dated May 29, 1996. The action was an interim action, with the objective of securing the site to minimize human contact with site soils and building areas.
Part of the interim removal action was the placement of a fence around the property. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been funding this fence rental since 1996, terminating such rental in 2004. The termination of the fence rental was due to the transitioning of the time-critical action to a non-time-critical action at the site. The non-time-critical action at the site began in September 2004.
Recent removal response activities and planned actions are being funded by private parties. These include building demolition and removal, and removal, treatment and offsite disposal of an estimated 75,000 tons of soils and other materials.
This is the last POLREP for this site. Future actions will be described in monthly, annual, or other reports prepared by the private parties who are performing the work.
