Pollution Report (POLREP) #17
Site Description
Work Mission Statement:

Safely and efficiently investigate and remove Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC); Materials Potentially Possessing an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH), Munitions Debris (MD) and explosively contaminated soil(TNT) from the Elkton Farms Firehole Site, as defined in EPA's geophysical study.

Current Activities
During this reporting period the intrusive activities continued within grids:B-5, F-5, F-6, H-5 and K-5.    These activities included magging and flagging of all metal items and the hand shovelling of these flagged materials. Grids will be split into 100ft by 100ft. This will make grid clearance after QC and QA failure easier with the smaller grids. They will be renumbered adding a,b,c and d at the end of the grid number.

On March 21 a clump of suspected high explosives (HE), resembling a rock, was detected in grid H-5.  The item was weighed at 38.5 lbs and was placed in the SHA.  On March 28, START retrieved a sample for nitro field testing.  The results were not in as of this writing.

On March 23 a blow in place (bip) of the 40mm rounds and thermites found during the last two weeks was conducted successfully.  This will occur on a biweekly basis.
