Current Activities
ERRs contractors remobed from the holidays on January 2nd to continue demolition and crushing operations. The asphalt access road to the tank farm area was removed, crushed and stockpiled to access two UST's. Previous information supplied to EPA suggested that closure plans had been submitted for all UST's on site, but EPA found two UST's; one containing #5 fuel oil and one containing a fuel oil/water mix. The fuel oil and oil/water waste was transported off site by STAT Environmental to IBS Environmental in Raleigh, North Carolina. The remaining tanks were cleaned and cut up for disposal.

The remaining 7000 pounds of paraformaldeyhde waste stored on site was transported to the Clean Harbors facility in Reedsville, SC for disposal. The eight small gas cylinders remaining on site were transported to IES Inc, Atlanta, Ga for gas analysis and disposal.

Upon review of residential samples taken upwind and downwind of the facility, START contractors assisted the OSC with analytical summaries and delivery of the letters. No contamination was discovered originating from the explosion or fire plume.

Site grading and hydroseeding activities were completed during the week of January 15th and the ERRs crew and USCG Gulf Strike Team demobed on January 25th.
