The following activities took place during the reporting period:
During this reporting period ERRS crews continued to work on pressure washing the containment area surround the above ground storage tank farm. During the weekend of 3/11-3/12/06 the area received rain and this made it necessary to pump out the containment area at the beginning of the week. This did not delay operations. As of 3/17/06, the entire containment area has been pumped out and all surfaces have been pressure washed. To date, approximately 150,000 gal of contaminated water have been pumped out of the area.
One cell of the containment area contains a horizontal tank that was once used to collect runoff water from the area where LWD would wash out tanks and tankers. ERRS removed the roof from this area to detect what was inside. The fluid inside had a ¼” of sludge floating on top and approximately 6” of sludge on the bottom of the tank. The tanks contained approximately 12,000 gal of fluid. Since the wash-off pads have been cleaned and the drains leading to the tank have been stopped, the lids were replaced on the tank and a tarp was be placed over the tank to prevent any further water infiltration. This tank will be addressed during any future removal action.
The last task completed this week was to address the AST that was leaking. START conducted a filed hazcat on the liquid and determined that it was slightly caustic (pH of 10). ERRS stuck the tank and determined that there was approximately 12,000 gal remaining in the tank. In the process of opening the top of the tank, the leaked slowed enough that a replacement valve was able to be placed on the tank and the leak stopped. This and all other tanks in the tank farm will be addressed in any future removal action.
Analytical results from the sampling conducted during the week of 3/6/06 - 3/10/06 are expected to come back from the lab by 3/20/06 and then a determination will be made about how to dispose of the contaminated water that has been pumped into the frac tanks during the ER. The water that is collecting in the rolloff boxes will also be addressed.
The main issue continues to be the weather. Every time that it rains the containment area will fill with water. Until a determination can be made (via sampling) about the constituents of the water collecting in the area, it will need to be pumped out.
