Pollution Report (POLREP) #3
Site Description
See Polrep 1 for details.

Current Activities
See Polreps 1 and 2 for activities prior to May 4, 2007.

During the week beginning May 7, 2007, EPA's ERRS contractor completed backfilling activities and repairing response related damages.  ERRS demobilized its personnel and equipment from the site upon completion of those tasks.

In order to further characterize the extent of contamination, EPA conducted indoor air sampling at two adjacent commercial properties to investigate whether a vapor intrusion problem persists at these two locations, 1 East Broadway and 3 East Broadway.  Air samples were collected on September 12-13, 2007 from these two locations, which documented elevated levels at 310 ug/m3 (1 East Broadway) and 13 ug/m3 (3 East Broadway).  The final report for this indoor air study was submitted to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) for a health consultation on November 1, 2007.  ATSDR and NHDES' Environmental Health Program is currently conducting an evaluation of the sampling data.

For the five initial properties (1.5 East Broadway, 9-11 East Broadway,6 Railroad Ave., 8-10 Railroad Ave., and 12 Railroad Ave.) that NHDES requested EPA evaluate for potential PCE vapor intrusion, ATSDR and NH DES' Environmental Health Program have evaluated the environmental data and determined there are no apparent public health hazard from tetrachloroethylene (PCE) vapor intrusion from the Site.

Planned Removal Actions
In accordance with the Action Memorandum, EPA has assisted NHDES in investigating whether potential indoor air/vapor intrusion problems are due to contamination from the Site. This assistance was completed on January 24, 2008 when EPA and NHDES determined that the 1 and 3 East Broadway properties have been impacted by PCE contamination originating from the Site.  In addition, EPA and NHDES agreed that NHDES would be the lead agency to work with the owners of 1 and 3 East Broadway if the final health consultation identifies a public health hazard that need to be addressed.

Next Steps
A final health consultation is expected from ATSDR and NHDES' Environmental Health Program by the end of January 2008.  Once the health consultation is available, NHDES' Environmental Health Program will send a copy of the report to the property owners.
