In the early morning hours of March 1, 2007, EPA was notified of a diesel spill at the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Rail Road's maintenance yard off of Argentine Blvd, Kansas City, Kansas. OSC Doherty responded to the scene that morning. The source of the spill was determined to be a broken flow line between the facility's storm water booster pump station and the facility's wastewater treatment storage tank. The flow line carried a diesel oil/water mixture to a treatment system holding tank.
BNSF RR cleanup contractor's were on-scene with vacuum trucks recovering product. Repairs to the flow line were in progress pending approval of the Corps of Engineer's due to the location of the flow line within the Kaw River Flood Control dikes.
Work is underway to complete cleanup of redisual spilled oil and complete repairs of broken flow line.
Complete cleanup actions.
