Site Description
The detailed site description can be found in POLREP #1.

Current Activities
On June 2, 2008, Area-RAE and pDR instruments were calibrated and setup at 4 different site locations for indoor and perimeter air monitoring.  All readings for Area-RAE monitoring, including H2S, HCN, VOCs, and LEL were below Action Levels.  O2 levels were between 20.8% and 21%.  pDR dust concentrations were below nuisance levels for all locations.  A Multi-RAE PID was utilized in the Exclusion Zone(EZ)for CO monitoring.  CO levels were 0-5ppm.

ERRS completed filling a 20 cubic yard roll-off container with hazardous waste debris and scrap vats.  This was picked up for disposal by K-Com Transportation of Fort Wayne, IN and transported to EQ Detroit, a Treatment and Disposal Facility located in Belleville, MI.  One additional 20 cubic yard roll-off box was delivered for hazardous waste solids.  Approximately one 55 gallon drum of hardened salts were removed from a nickel bath vat for disposal.  The crew continued to dismantle vats and scrape the wooden floor to remove hazardous residue.  Security was on-site from 1800 June 2, 2008 through 0630 June 3, 2008.

On June 3, 2008, Area-RAE and pDR instruments were calibrated and setup in the EZ for indoor air monitoring.  All readings for Area-RAE monitoring, including H2S, HCN, VOCs, and LEL were below Action Levels.  O2 levels were between 20.8% and 21%.  pDR dust concentrations were below nuisance levels for all locations.  Cutting of vats and drums was completed.  A total of three drums of salts were removed from the nickel bath vat and added to the cyanide solid waste stream.  Security was on-site from 1530 June 3, 2008 through 0630 June 4, 2008.

On June 4, 2008, Area-RAE and pDR instruments were calibrated and setup at 2 identified site locations for indoor air monitoring.  Outdoor air monitoring was not utilized due to rain at the site.   All readings for Area-RAE monitoring, including H2S, HCN, VOCs, and LEL were below Action Levels.  O2 levels were between 20.8% and 21%.
pDR dust concentrations were below nuisance levels for all locations.
All floors on the main level were finished being scraped of debris.  
The last 20-cubic yard roll-off was filled and prepared for transportation.  The outside of all drums were cleaned and prepped for transportation.  Security was on site from 1530 June 4, 2008 through 0700 June 5, 2008.

On June 5, 2008, Area-RAE and pDR instruments were calibrated and setup at 4 identified site locations for indoor air monitoring.
All readings for Area-RAE monitoring, including H2S, HCN, VOC and LEL were below Action Levels.  O2 levels were between 20.8% and 21%.  CO levels were 0ppm.  pDR dust concentrations were below nuisance levels for all locations.

The hazardous waste roll-off box was picked up for disposal by K-Com Transportation of Fort Wayne, IN and transported to EQ Detroit, a Treatment and Disposal Facility located in Belleville, MI.

PSC Environmental of Kansas City, MO. arrived on site to lab-pack the 106 small containers at a weight of 516 pounds.  These were placed into eleven over pack containers for shipment.  Four totes of CN waste solution weighing 8,800 pounds, along with the over pack containers, were placed on truck #1 for transfer to Solvent Recovery in Kansas City, MO.

Three totes of acid liquid, weighing 9900 pounds, seven drums of acid solids at a weight of 3850 pounds and a small container of organic acid liquid weighing 20 pounds were shipped on truck #2 by PSC to Solvent Recovery of kansas City, MO.

Thirty-one drums of CN solids and two cubic yard boxes of CN solids at a combined weight of 19,100 pounds were shipped by Pioneer Lines of Minnesota to Solvent Recovery of Kansas City, MO.  

Transfer of all waste was completed on this day.  Property keys were turned over to the RP's attorney.  De-mobilization of site trailers would commence on Friday, June 6, 2008.

Key Issues
•Building structural integrity.  Wooden floor in the Main Plating and Black Oxide Rooms are not in optimal condition for foot traffic.  Sheet rock and plaster ceilings in Main Plating and Finishing Room are partially falling in.  Portions of brick and plaster walls in the Main Plating, Finishing and Black Oxide Rooms are are in disrepair.

•USEPA removed process piping only.  Utility piping and equipment are property of RP.

•Floor on the main level is constructed of wood and can not be effectively cleaned.

•Parts of the building interior are considered hazardous waste and can not be cleaned without jeopardizing structural integrity.  If future work calls for building demolition, it would likely be deemed as hazardous waste.
