Current Activities
Daily Activities

• ERRS continued the removal of the Asbestos-Containing Waste Materials (ACWM) from the fire damaged portion of the building (through Thursday, May 21st).
• ERRS continued cleaning (fire hose, brooms, and squeegees) the floors in the areas ACWM was removed in preparation of final clearance sampling.
• START collected micro vacuum samples/soil samples for asbestos clearance in cleaned areas of the buildings when appropriate.

On Monday, May 18th, 2009, ERRS began disassembling the electrical substation.  Twelve (187 tons) roll-off boxes of ACWM were transported off site for disposal.

On Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 ERRS continued to disassemble the electrical substation and developed bulking schemes for container consolidation.  Eleven (171 tons) roll-off boxes of ACWM were transported off site for disposal.

On Wednesday May 20th, 2009 eleven (189 tons) roll-off boxes containing ACWM transported off site for disposal.  ERRS completed bulk composite sampling and submitted samples for disposal analysis.

On Thursday, May 21st, 2009 eight (125 tons) roll-off boxes containing ACWM transported off site for disposal.  This completes the bulk ACWM removal phases.  Periodic shipments of mixed PCB and ACWM waste will occur at a later date. ERRS pulled down the electrical substation towers in preparation of transformer removal.

From Friday, May 22nd through Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 ERRS de-mobilized from site for the Memorial Day holiday.  No work occurred on site; however, a foreman performed daily checks and site security was present 24 hours during the holiday break.

On Wednesday, May 27th, 2009, ERRS began building pads for staging soils potentially contaminated with PCBs.  Exploratory trenching was performed on the southwest portion of the site and no evidence of buried drums were discovered.

On Thursday, May 28th, 2009, ERRS relocated two of the three transformers located in the outdoor electrical substation.  The third transformers was too heavy to be moved with on-site equipment.  An IFB for disposal of the three transformers was generated and distributed.  Two samples were collected from the earthen ramp that was built for the removal of the transformers and two samples were collected from the borrow area to be analyzed for PCBs.

On Friday, May 29th, 2009, ERRS removed the earthen ramp built that was built for the removal of the electrical substation.  In addition ERRS began grading an area to be used for on-site water treatment of PCB contaminated liquids.

Planned Removal Actions
- Complete final cleaning of buildings affected by ACWM.

- Perform extent of contamination investigation of PCB contaminated soil from leaking transformers.

- Initiate removal of PCB contaminated soil (total estimated 3,000 tons).

- Consolidate, sample, perform hazardous categorization and off-site disposal of all drums and containers on the site (estimated 100 drums, 100 totes and misc small containers).

- Remove and dispose of PCB contaminated water from the pits associated with the building.

- Remove transformers containing PCB oil.

- Remove and dispose of silica quartz dust/sand, as necessary.

Key Issues
- Residents are located directly across the street from the site. As such, daily perimeter air samples for asbestos will be collected during all asbestos related work.

Disposition Of Wastes
A total of 3,104 tons of ACWM debris went to Minerva Landfill, Waynseburg, Ohio for disposal.

A total of 896 tons of ACWM debris went to American Landfill, Waynesburg, Ohio for disposal
