Current Activities
Daily Activities

•  Perimeter air monitoring for respirable dust is conducted during activities involving the excavation/regarding of the foundry sand that contains high amounts of silica dust.
•  Perimeter air samples are being collected for total and respirable dust (silica components).  One set of samples per week are being analyzed and the other samples are being archived.
•  To date no monitoring results or sample results exceeded the sites action levels.

Current Activities

June 22, 2009 (Monday)
•  START collected final clearance asbestos micro-vacuum samples from the southwest portion of Building #2.
•  ERRS continued the clean-up of non-PCB foundry sand and general debris from inside Buildings #5 and #6.

June 23, 2009 (Tuesday)
•  ERRS continued the removal of non-PCB foundry sand and general debris from inside Buildings #5 and #6.
•  ERRS began the exploratory excavation of the pits and trenches in the central potion of Building 6 in order to determine the depth, lateral extent, and to see if these central pits/trenches are connected to PCB-impacted trenches in the east portion of Building #6.

June 24, 2009, (Wednesday)
•  ERRS completed installation of the carbon filter system and collected three (3) post-treatment water samples at different discharge rates to determine the systems filtration effectiveness.
•  ERRS continued the removal of non-PCB foundry sand and general debris in Building #6 and Building #4.

June 25, 2009, (Thursday)
•  ERRS continued the removal of non-PCB foundry sand and general debris in Building #6 and Building #4.
•  Severe weather (thunder) ceased work activities at 1530 hours.

June 26, 2009, (Friday)
•  ERRS continued removal of foundry sand and general debris from inside Building #6.
•  Post treatment water sample results were received and and met discharge requirements for the City of Canton’s sewer system.
•  ERRS began the removal of wastewater from the trenches in Building #6. Treated wastewater was containerized in a 20,000 gallon Baker tank.
•  ERRS completed the removal of mixed asbestos and PCB contaminated debris in Building 3 (courtyard).
•  ERRS began the demolition of the exterior walls of Building #2. The brick debris will be used as backfill for the basement area of Building #1 and backfilling the interior trenches.

June 27, 2009, (Saturday)
•  ERRS operated the wastewater treatment system to remove the liquids from the trenches in Building #6.

June 29, 2009 (Monday)
•  ERRS continued the demolition of Building #2 and using the demolition debris as backfill in Building #1 basement.
•  ERRS and START accessed the tunnel system in Building #6 and collected sand samples from the trenches to define the extent of PCB contamination.
•  ERRS continued removing and treating wastewater from the tunnel system in Building #6.

June 30, 2009 (Tuesday)
•  ERRS continued the demolition of Building #2 and #3 and using the demolition debris as backfill in Building #1 basement.
•  ERRS and START continued accessing the tunnel system in Building #6 and collected sand and water samples from the trenches to define the extent of PCB contamination.
•  ERRS continued removing and treating wastewater from the tunnel system in Building #6.
•  ERRS removed the five 55-gallon drums containing carbon used at the wastewater treatment system. The 55-gallon drums will be replaced with a more suitable chamber to handle the water pressure and to increase the treatment rate.

July 1, 2009, (Wednesday)
•  ERRS continued the demolition of Building #2 and using the demolition debris as backfill in Building #1 basement.
•  A tanker truck with vacuum hose was used to remove the oil/water waste from the totes and drums staged on the concrete pad (approximately 4,500 gallons).
•  The new water treatment vessel was loaded with the activated carbon from the drum system.  The new system was set up and two post treatment samples were collected to verify the new set-ups efficiency.
•  Final clearance asbestos micro-vacuum samples collected from the concrete floor inside Building #3 in the vicinity of the transformer.

July 2, 2009, (Thursday)
•  No work today. ERRS demobilize for 4th of July holiday.  Site work will resume on Tuesday, July 7th.

Planned Removal Actions
- Complete final cleaning of buildings affected by ACWM.

- Consolidate, sample, perform hazardous categorization and off-site disposal of all drums and containers on the site (estimated 100 drums, 100 totes and misc small containers).

- Remove and dispose of PCB contaminated water from the pits associated with the building.

- Remove and dispose of PCB contaminated sand, soils, and concrete.

- Remove transformers containing PCB oil.

- Remove and dispose of silica quartz dust/sand, as necessary.

- Performing final grading/covering of the property.

Key Issues
- Residents are located directly across the street from the site. As such, daily perimeter air samples for silica dust and respirable dust will be collected during all activities involving foundry sand.

Disposition Of Wastes
A total of 3,144 tons of ACWM debris went to Minerva Landfill, Waynseburg, Ohio for disposal.

A total of 911 tons of ACWM debris went to American Landfill, Waynesburg, Ohio for disposal.

A total of 4,500 gallons of waste oil and waste quench oil went to the Chemtron Corporation for recycling/disposal.
