Current Activities
Daily Activities

•  ERRS continued and completed the removal of PCB contaminated debris from the trenches inside Building #6.
•  ERRS backfilled the non-PCB impacted trenches with available on-site foundry sand and fill.
•  ERRS continued pumping PCB contaminated water from the pits inside Building #6 through the on-site treatment system.  Water is stored in frac tanks pending laboratory analysis for disposal parameters.
•  START performed perimeter dust monitoring.  All monitoring results were less than the site’s action levels.  

Current Activities

August 17, 2009 (Monday):
• ERRS cleaned the concrete floor in Building #2 in preparation for loading of trucks to transport PCB contaminated soil off site for disposal.
• ERRS completed backfilling of excavation in Building #3, removed all demolition debris from between Buildings #2 and #5 and staged backfill material from the south of Building #4 to areas along the trenches inside Building #6..
• ERRS installed of silt fence at northwest corner of the site and graded the area south of the settling pond.
• One (1) pallet containing fire extinguishers transported to Pitt in Canton, Ohio for reuse/recycling.

August 18, 2009 (Tuesday)
• ERRS conducted additional excavation of PCB contaminated soil inside Building #6.
• ERRS removing soil south of the settling pond and staging it inside Building #6 for backfill in the trenches.
• START collected one sample of treated water from the frac-tank, seven confirmation soil samples from excavation in Building #6 and one disposal sampled from stockpiled soil all to be analyzed for PCBs.
• One (1) cylinder of nitrogen was transported to Ohio Air Products in Canton, Ohio for reuse/recycling.

August 19, 2009 (Wednesday)
• ERRS began transportation and disposal of the PCB contaminated soil and concrete. Twenty-four (24) truck loads of PCB contaminated soil and concrete transported off site.
• ERRS began the cleaning of the PCB contaminated trenches in Building #6.

August 20, 2009, (Thursday)
• ERRS continued transportation and disposal of the PCB contaminated soil and concrete. Twenty-five (25) truck loads of PCB contaminated soil and concrete transported off site.

August 21, 2009, (Friday)
• ERRS began backfilling decontaminated trenches inside Building #6.
• ERRS consolidated PCB contaminated soil and concrete inside Buildings #4 and #6.
• One (1) cylinder of anhydrous ammonia transported off site to Tanner Industries in New Castle, Pennsylvania for reuse/recycling.

August 22, 2009, (Saturday)
• ERRS completed removal of water from trenches in Building #6 and began backfilling main trench.

Planned Removal Actions
•  Remove and dispose of PCB contaminated water from the pits associated with the building.
•  Remove and dispose of PCB contaminated sand, soils, and concrete.  
•  Performing final grading/covering of the property.

Next Steps
Analytical results were received for the PCB excavation areas. Results indicated that the area inside Building #6 needs further excavation.
 
Disposition Of Wastes
A total of 3,144 tons of ACWM debris went to Minerva Landfill, Waynseburg, Ohio for disposal.

A total of 149 tons of mixed ACWM and PCB debris went to Minerva Landfill, Waynesburg, Ohio for disposal.

A total of 911 tons of ACWM debris went to American Landfill, Waynesburg, Ohio for disposal.

A total of 4,500 gallons of waste oil and waste quench oil went to the Chemtron Corporation for recycling/disposal.

A total of 816 tons of debris and sand contaminated with low level PCBs went to Minerva Landfill, Waynesburg, Ohio for disposal.

A total of 8 cubic yard boxes of foundry sand heavily contaminated with PCBs went to Wayne Disposal Inc., Site #2, Belleville, MI for disposal.

A total of 76 drums/totes of D001, D002 or other liquid waste went to Chemtron Corporation, Avon, Ohio for disposal.

Two (2) PCB contaminated tranformers went to Clean Harbors, Twinsburg Ohio, for disposal.

One (1) pallet of fire extinguishers went to Pitt in Canton, Ohio for reuse/recycling.

One (1) cylinder of nitrogen went to Ohio Air Products in Canton, Ohio for reuse/recycling.

One (1) cylinder of anhydrous ammonia went to Tanner Industries in New Castle, Pennsylvania for reuse/recycling.

A total of 140 tons of scrap steel went to PSC Metals, Canton, Ohio for recycling.

A total of 20,000 gallons of PCB impacted water was treated on Site.
