At approximately 1030 hours, a Canadian National Railroad (CNR) train derailed south of 7 Mile Road in Detroit, Michigan. Four of the cars carrying methanol jumped the track and were damaged. Other cars including inhalation hazards were not damaged. The Detroit Fire Department's IC ordered a precautionary evacuation. U.S. EPA responded to assist. Once on site, U.S. EPA coordinated with the Federal Railroad Administration and the Detroit IC. During an assessment by HazMat teams, only one of the cars was found to be leaking/dripping. It is estimated less than 1-gallon of methanol was released. Air monitoring did not detect elevated levels. The evacuation has been lifted. U.S. EPA has demobed from the site.
