It came to the attention of EPA that the Puerto Rico Dept. of Health (PRDOH) has a small dilapidated warehouse containing a plethora of containers of pesticides, many of which are in containers that are deteriorated and/or do not have any labels. The warehouse is located in a densely populated area of metropolitan San Juan, near a National Guard base and a penitentiary. It is part of a larger complex of buildings that comprised a former federal VA hospital that was transferred to the PR government. The PRDOH has a Dengue Fever prevention division and it was this part of DOH that uses the building to store pesticides.

EPA deployed personnel to the site on 3/2, at which time they took photos of the building and what was visible inside from the doorway. One label was seen and it was on a container of Surrender Pest Tabs, a restricted pesticide. In addition there are 55-gallon drums, cardboard boxes, bags and a variety of other containers. It should be noted that Surrender is a pesticide for fire ants and not mosquitoes; which is the vector for Dengue fever. Apparently other pesticide products are being stored in this building. An organized planned entry is being contemplated to more accurately document the contents of the building.
