Officials with the United States Forest Service contacted the National Response Center with a report of a dam reconstruction project on the American Fork River near American Fork, Utah, that resulted in a release of sediment containing unknown heavy metals being washed into the river.

Crews associated with the Northern Utah Water Conservancy were performing the final draw down in the reservoir and the base flow started eroding through deposits at the bottom of the reservoir. The field construction team is attempting to reroute the flow around the deposits and a sampling crew with the State of Utah is in route to collect samples.

OSC Joyce Ackerman was dispatched to the scene.
