Nov 3, 2016 10:30am crude oil was discovered in the Wichita River, west of Wichita Falls, TX. Texas Railroad Commission (TRRC) responded and identified the source of the discharge and made NRC report #1163222.
Approximately 150 barrels of crude oil was discharged from an oil production facility storage tank owned by Atkinson Oil Company located in Valley View, TX. Oil entered a drainage canal and flowed north to the Wichita River. Oil was observed in the river with the majority staying appearing to have remained in the canal. has been observed approximately 17 miles downstream but primarily as a sheen. No wildlife impacts have been observed.
TRRC immediately responded to the incident and called out contractors as the facility owner, Atkinson Oil, indicated that they did not have the resources to address the spill. After coordination with the TRRC, EPA Region 6 responded with its contractors to assist TRRC.
