Warren Steel Holdings (WSH) is a former steel manufacturing facility in Warren, Ohio. The site was referred to EPA and was recently assigned to OSC Wolfe.
OSC Wolfe was conducting a scheduled Site Assessment when EPA encountered an overflowing secondary containment pit on the exterior of one of the facility buildings. The material was field tested to reveal a pH as low as 1 S.U. It appears the fittings and tanks in the containment have failed releasing their contents.
Due to the uncontrolled nature of the release, OSC Wolfe initiated an Emergency Removal Action to stabilize the scene. The remainder of identified site wastes will be addressed through a proposed Time-Critical Removal at a later date.
