The Big Seven Mine is located in the upper drainage of the Snow Creek watershed in the Little Belt Mountains approximately two miles northeast of Neihart in Cascade County, MT. The Big Seven Mine is located within operable unit (OU) 2 of the Carpenter-Snow Creek National Priority List (NPL).

This former mining site contains the remains of sixteen man-made structures all in various states of degradation. Abandoned chemical containers have been found in four of the structures, some of which contained unstable chemical residues or hazardous waste. In addition, abandoned PCB containing transformers have been found at the site.

EPA’s Response Team initiated response activities in coordination with Malmstrom Airforce Base Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team and Monarch and Neihart Volunteer Fire Department on September 12, 2017.

During the Emergency Response, a long-forgotten explosives magazine was also discovered. EPA and it's contractors re-mobilized in the fall of 2018 to render that safe. All activities are complete, and more information is available about this effort in the Documents Section.
