Overview: At approximately 0915 local time on March 12th a fire broke out at an auto salvage yard near Northeast 75th Ave. and Killingsworth in Portland, Oregon. The fire has spread to nearby structures, including an apartment building, and is generating a large amount of very dense smoke. Nearby residents and a school have been evacuated.

State, Local and other Federal Agency Actions: Portland Fire Bureau and other first responders are on scene. Portland Fire and Oregon DEQ have requested EPA assistance in community air monitoring and other environmental monitoring.

EPA Actions: EPA OSC Randy Nattis is responding from EPA’s Portland Operations Office along with technical assistance contractors also based in Portland. Region 10 has requested air modeling support from the Interagency Modeling and Atmospheric Assessment (IMAAC) Center. EPA’s PIO Bill Dunbar is coordinating with ODEQ on media messaging.
