On June 13, 2018 Denver Police discovered approximately 1,000 pounds of consumer fireworks, classified by the Department of Transportation (DOT) as 1.4G explosives, in a residence in the 3700 block of Garfield Street. Neighbors called the police after noticing advertisement of fireworks for sale on the resident's Facebook page. The fireworks were stored in a room and stacked floor to ceiling. The room was was not in compliance with 27 CFR Part 555, Subpart K requirements for storage of low explosives or secured.

Denver Department of Public Health and Environment notified the NRC and requested EPA's assistance in disposal as Denver Fire Department required the materials be removed by 1700, June 13, 2018. EPA Emergency Response deployed an on-scene coordinator (OSC) to the Site on June 13, 2018.
