At approximately 8 pm Pacific time on Sunday, July 8th, King County Harbor Patrol and Kenmore Fire responded to a 42-foot pleasure craft fire on Lake Washington, just off shore from Saint Edward State Park in the Kenmore, Washington area. The vessel subsequently sunk approximately 100 feet off shore at a depth of approximately 30 feet. The owner of the vessel confirmed that the vessel was powered by diesel fuel, with an estimated 350 gallons on board, which began actively discharging from the sunken vessel into Lake Washington. With logistical support from the King County Sheriff's Office Marine Rescue Dive Unit, EPA and the Washington Department of Ecology responded to contain and initiate removal of the pollution threat. Operations to remove fuel from the vessel were largely completed before sunrise on Wednesday July 10th. Containment boom was left until place to contain residual discharged fuel and await vessel salvage operations.
