The American Creosote DeRidder site (Site) is a 55-acre tract of land owned by Central Manufacturing Company (CMC) located south of the city of DeRidder, Beauregard Parish, Louisiana. Historical timber treatment operations at the Site have resulted in creosote related compounds contamination. It is reported that timber treatment was performed at the Site from the 1920’s to approximately 1957, at which time operations went dormant. It is reported that soil, sediment, and surface water are contaminated with waste from former Site operations, which included liquid pitch oil, tar oil, and coal tar solutions. Wastes were collected in on-site concrete vats and pits. Contaminants found at the Site include polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs), and metals.
