EPA has suspended field work for the year and anticipates resuming work in spring of 2021.
As we continue to adjust to the evolving COVID-19 situation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is taking the necessary steps to ensure that decisions about ongoing cleanup activities at Superfund removal sites are made with the health and safety of communities, EPA staff, state and tribal partners, and contractors as the priority. Therefore, decisions about continuing on-site activities will be made on a case-by-case basis.

SITE INFORMATION
Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) referred the site to U.S. EPA after soil samples showed elevated lead concentrations at the former Friendship Pottery I site on 90 Church St. in Roseville and in nearby residential yards.
In September 2019, EPA staff met with the homeowners to share the sample results and provide health information. In addition, EPA covered children’s play areas and soil with six inches of mulch to reduce exposure until the cleanup is completed.
In early November 2019, EPA began removing lead-contaminated soil from four residential yards near the pottery site. By December, EPA finished removing and replacing the soil in three properties.
In 2020, EPA completed removing lead-contaminated soils from all identified residential yards and plans to complete the cleanup of the former pottery in 2021.
