On February 16, 2020, a tanker truck and trailer owned by Space Age Fuel carrying diesel and gasoline wrecked and turned over at Milepost 63 of Oregon State Highway 22, spilling most of the 10,700 gallons of fuel onto the road and road ditch. The incident location is immediately adjacent to the North Santiam River, upstream of Detroit Reservoir and approximately 10 miles east and south of Idanha, OR. Emergency response teams from local Detroit/Idanha Fire Dept., Oregon State Police, Salem Fire/Hazmat Team 13, and ODOT responded to the site, shutting down the highway. Contractors for Space Age Fuel also mobilized and begin setting some initial boom in the river. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and EPA Region 10 also mobilized State and Federal OSCs and EPA contract resources to the site.
