The Site is located on the northern outskirts of Stockton, Utah in Tooele County and was an active dumping site for waste associated with the smelting of silver and lead ore from the 1920s until 1979. Waste containing high levels of arsenic and lead is found in surface soils across the Site and beyond a failed containment berm. Waste deposits dozens of feet thick with no vegetative cover are blowing across the landscape and creating migrating dunes of contamination. Trespassers who use the site for recreation are at risk for exposure to contaminated soils and contaminated surface water after rainfall.
