The Oklahoma Department of Environmental
Quality (ODEQ) submitted a request to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA) Region 6 Superfund and Emergency Management Division for assistance in
evaluating the former Broken Arrow Landfill site (Site) for radioactive material contamination.
The Site is located immediately south of E. 71st Street in the City
of Broken Arrow in Wagoner County, Oklahoma.
On December 13, 2021, an EPA On-Scene-Coordinator (OSC) deployed to the Site with Superfund
Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) contractors to assess the levels of radioactive material contamination within the property. Field work was completed on December 17, 2021. Assessment results will be used to determine if a removal action is warranted.
On August 29, 2022, an action memo authorizing a removal action at the Broken Arrow Landfill was signed by the EPA superfund Division Director.
On October 3, 2022, the EPA team mobilized to the site to begin the removal action.
