The Responsible Party (RP), Trinity Operating, reported the discharge of approximately 100 barrels (bbls) of oil and salt water from a tank farm into the Gobbler Creek. The RP reported the point of impact to the creek is approximately 2.2 miles downstream into the Canadian River. The RP could not estimate the portion of the discharge volume that was oil versus salt water. The RP reported using vacuum trucks and absorbent booms and pads to recover the discharge. EPA confirmed the information with the on scene Oklahoma Corporation Commission (OCC). Upon determining the Canadian River is the home of the Arkansas River Shiners, an endangered species, EPA mobilized Superfund Technical Assessment and Response Team (START) contractors to respond and assess the incident and response.
EPA has notified Department of Interior (DOI) and US Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS). USFWS visited the Site to assess the incident impact and response efforts. EPA also reached out to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and Muscogee Nation Environmental Services, who have visited the Site regularly to monitor the status of the incident and response effort.
