U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was asked by the Genesee County Land Bank Authority to assist in removal of building debris, left behind after a series of fires destroyed a former corner store. A previous site survey identified asbestos within what has now become the building ruins.
EPA is planning to conduct cleanup and disposal of the contaminated ruins and debris at the property. Work will consist of:
• Demolishing the building ruins to remove asbestos-containing materials.
• Transporting and disposing of the contaminated waste at an approved facility.
• Following a safety plan, including air monitoring, to protect the health of workers and the public.
• Following COVID-19 safety protocols as outlined in a safety plan.
