Sept. 26 Update
EPA is currently overseeing
Marathon’s 24-hour air monitoring at the spill site and in the surrounding
area. Federal, state and local agencies have formed a unified command that
includes: EPA, Indiana Department of Environmental Management, Putnam County
Emergency Management Agency, Putnam County Health Department and Marathon.
On Monday, September 26, at 2:30
a.m., Marathon Pipeline reported a spill of natural gasoline from its
Rio Pipeline, a 8-inch buried steel transmission pipeline in Fillmore (Putnam
County), Indiana resulting in a sheen on Dyer Creek. Marathon shut down the
pipeline and the company determined initial estimates of spill volume are 1
barrel on water and 10 barrels spilled total.
