On October 15, 2024, at approximately 7pm, the EPA was notified by the National Response Center (NRC) of a discharge of estimated 1,000 barrels of crude oil from Energy Transfer’s transmission pipeline in Huffman, TX. According to the NRC Report, the spill occurred when third party struck a 10-inch transmission pipeline by accident, causing 1,000 barrels of crude oil to enter a storm drain. While the storm drain connects to Luce Bayou, the oil did not enter the bayou.

The spill is a major discharge as defined in § 300.5 of the National Oil Pollution Act and Hazardous Substances Contingency Plan. Approximately 3,857 residents live within a 3-mile radius of the incident location.

The spill location is in the EPA Area of Responsibility, and EPA is the lead agency.
