EPA was notified by the National Response Center (NRC) at
approximately 10:48 CST on December 10, 2024, of a fire and release of
chemicals at the Bluebonnet Petrochemical Solutions facility in Baytown, Texas.
The Baytown Fire Department responded to the fire and made the initial report
to the NRC. Harris County Pollution Control is also responding to the incident. The cause of the fire and
resulting release of chemicals is currently unknown. Follow up with the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) indicated the containers on fire are
glycol ethers and additional unknown chemicals may be in the vicinity of the
fire.
EPA is responding to assess the situation, coordinate
with state and local response partners, and determine if any additional
response resources are required.
EPA has response authority for the Inland zone and is the
Federal On-Scene Coordinator for this incident. There are no known Risk
Management Program or Facility Response Plan facilities near the incident
location. There are no reported injuries associated with this incident.
