On 01/27/2025 at 8:17 AM the EPA was notified by the NRC of a release of Sodium Hydroxide and Diesel from an overturned tanker truck near the intersection of East Tower Lane and South 4100th Street in Catoosa, Oklahoma (36.246971, -95.708666). The potential responsible party is Action Resources. The cause of the accident is unknown. Sodium Hydroxide is a CERCLA Hazardous Substance. The Verdigris River is located approximately 1 mile from the spill source location. There are residential properties approximately 215 feet from the spill source location. The PRP has not been identified at this time. Within a 1-mile radius of the incident location, there is a population of approximately 817.  The incident is located within a Cherokee Nation Tribal Statistical Area. 

OSC Polk and EPA’s technical assistance contractor (START) were activated to respond to the incident. 

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, Local Police, Local Fire, Tulsa HAZMAT, and Cherokee Nation Tribal Representatives are responding to the release.
